Project Overview:
Kinetic Type Motion Design
For my Kinetic Type assignment, I was tasked to create a visually engaging snippet of a lyric video for Frank Ocean's "Pink + White." The goal was to use what I had learned about after effects to craft a smooth, stylish video that music lovers can enjoy. By focusing primarily on typography, I aimed to make the aesthetic match the vibe of the song, making an easy connection from the listener's connection to the lyrics.
Process: A Backwards Approach to Kinetic Type
I took a unique approach to this project by starting with the song, "Pink + White," and diving right into the animation. Within just 1-2 days, I had the final animation done, only later finishing the storyboards and moodboarding; on certain occasions, I can come up with something without much need for inspiration. Thankfully, my professor had only a few minor tweaks for me, allowing the project to come together smoothly without any personal revisions. This quick turnaround really showcased my passion for motion design!
Outcome: Success in Motion Design
I was quite satisfied with my project the near-full marks that I received from my professor back that claim up, reflecting his appreciation for my project. I particularly enjoyed challenging myself with new techniques in After Effects, such as using null layers, which helped with the animation process. Overall, the project was a rewarding experience, and I wouldn’t change a thing—it perfectly captured the essence of the song while putting my design skills to the test!
This Project and More...
This isn’t the only project that I have done throughout my career, I’ve got much more examples of my design on my work page, and I occasionally show off my stuff on my linkedIn
